Fort Lauderdale real estate guide: prices, pros & cons, risks
The “Venice of America” — about 165 miles of waterways, Las Olas Boulevard and a growing downtown. Waterfront homes with boat docks and oceanfront condos.
Living in Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale is Broward's largest city and the boating capital of the region, with a network of canals often described as around 165 miles long. Las Olas Boulevard links downtown's restaurants and galleries to the beach, and Port Everglades, FLL airport and a Brightline station keep the city connected.
Neighbourhoods range from historic Victoria Park and Rio Vista to the Las Olas Isles, Harbor Beach and the high-rises of the beachfront.
Fort Lauderdale real estate
This is where buyers come for a home with a private dock: waterfront single-family homes with ocean access are the signature product. There are also downtown and beach condos, townhomes and more affordable neighbourhoods inland.
Waterfront due diligence
For boat owners, bridge clearance, canal depth and distance to the ocean matter as much as the house. We also check seawall condition, flood elevation and insurance — all of which affect both cost and resale.
